Research Compliance/Insitutional Review Board Requirements

Research compliance and IRB requirements need to go through one of three institutional processes: Mercer University, Memorial University Medical Center, or MCCG. Check with your project leader or the principle investigator to learn which of the three institutional processes you will follow.

  • Check to see if your research requires Institutional Review Board review. Institutional Review Boards and Offices of Research Compliance (ORC) are responsible for making final decisions as to what constitutes human subjects research and how human subjects' research protections must be implemented.
  • All persons conducting research involving human subjects must have on file with the Office of Research Compliance a valid certificate of Human Subjects Training.
  • Individuals who are exposed to protected health information in the course of their research are required by the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996 to obtain basic HIPAA awareness training.

All persons conducting research involving human subjects must have on file with the Office of Research Compliance a valid certificate of Human Subjects Training. Training can be obtained from the CITI (Collaborative Institutional Training Initiative). A copy of the certificate is automatically sent to the Office of Research Compliance. Individuals who are exposed to protected health information in the course of their research are required by the University's mandate from the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996 to obtain basic HIPAA awareness training. Medical Center of Central Georgia Institutional Review Board

Mercer University faculty, staff, or students who wish to conduct research with MCCG will need to complete the joint application form http://www.mccgclinicaltrials.org/forms.html The Office of Research Compliance will forward the application to MCCG. Once the application is approved by MCCG’s IRB, human subject research can begin. Submit all completed forms to:
