Research Compliance/Insitutional Review Board Requirements

Research compliance and IRB requirements need to go through the institutional process.

  • Check to see if your research requires Institutional Review Board review. Institutional Review Boards and Offices of Research Compliance (ORC) are responsible for making final decisions as to what constitutes human subjects research and how human subjects' research protections must be implemented.
  • All persons conducting research involving human subjects must have on file with the Office of Research Compliance a valid certificate of Human Subjects Training. Go to Required Training for more information on Human Protections education and training.
  • Individuals who are exposed to protected health information in the course of their research are required by the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996 to obtain basic HIPAA awareness training.
