Learning Resources Center!
The Medical Library offers a variety of print, electronic, and
audiovisual items which support both the problem-based curriculum and student
research and development. The collection includes books, audiovisuals,
government documents, and print and electronic journals. The Peyton T. Anderson
Learning Resources Center (LRC) provides a health sciences model gallery,
computer lab with interactive software, meeting rooms and a multi-disciplinary
wet lab. In addition to an extensive model collection, the LRC also houses
x-rays, microscope slides and plastinated specimens. Library and LRC resources
can be located using the MedCat online catalog at

Databases:
The Library provides access to
specialized electronic
resources such as MD Consult, Cochrane Library,
DynaMed, ISI Web of Science, Essential Evidence Plus, GALILEO, and RefWorks.
Journals:
The Library makes
several thousand journals available electronically which may be accessed via
our A-to-Z e-Journal List.

articles, be sure to use the MUSM PubMed link from the list of database and

School of Medicine faculty, students and staff, or for free.
Interlibrary
Loan (ILL)
Through interlibrary loan,students may
request books or journal articles not found in the Librarys collection or
submitting an online request at http://med.mercer.edu/libraries/ill-macon.htm.
Fees for ILL ($3.00 per item) are charged to the appropriate department
(with prior approval of the department) OR to the individual student,
depending on the policy of the department. Articles may be picked up in the
Library or emailed to you. Please allow 3-10 business days for receipt of
borrowed materials. Books may take
longer, and must be picked up in the Library.
COPY/PRINT
ALLOTMENTS FOR MEDICAL STUDENTS
Black & white copies cost 10
cents/page; black & white prints cost 10 cents/page and color
prints cost 25 cents/page. The Medical School will provide each freshman
and sophomore medical student an allotment of $100.00 for July-December
2011. This will be credited to the students' Mercer ID Bear card account to be
used for copying or printing. When a zero balance is reached, an extra $50.00 will be added to the students' account. Unused credit will be voided on July 31 each year.
Junior and senior medical students will be allotted $10.00 for
copying/printing for July-December 2011. As with freshmen and sophomores, this
will be credited to the students' Mercer ID Bear Card. Unused credit will be
voided on July 31 each year.
NOTICE: If students do not have a
Mercer ID card, they cannot receive their allotment. If a student does not have
a Mercer ID Bear Card, they must obtain one at Auxiliary Services. Students can
add value to their Mercer ID Bear Card via the Value Transfer Station located
in the Medical Library or by going to www.bearcardoffice.com.
Photocopying/Document
Delivery
Copying equipment is available
for use in the library.
Photocopying is $.10/page. A photocopy card
may be purchased from the regenerator located next to the photocopy machines at
a cost of $2.00.
Materials on Reserve
Purpose Reserve items are materials listed as primary references in the
Mercer University School of Medicine Study Guides, the clerkship reading lists,
and items in heavy demand during a phase.
Location Reserve Materials are located in
the Library workroom. Please ask for them at the Reference
Desk.
Availability Standard checkout of reserve items is four hours.
However, four hours before closing, reserve materials may be checked out for
overnight use provided they are returned one hour after reopening. Clerkship
Reserve 2 items, Board Review books, and books from the regular stacks may be
checked out for the entire length of the clinical rotation by clerkship
students in years 3 and 4.
Library
Instruction
We offer one on one or group classes for faculty, staff, and students
on a variety of topics, including PubMed/MEDLINE, Locating Fulltext E-journals
and Textbooks, GALILEO, RefWorks and more. We are happy to make a house

Peyton
T. Anderson Learning Resources Center
The Learning Resources Center (LRC) on the second floor is part of
the Medical Library. The facility is used for resource sessions, classes,
meetings, testing, computer and audiovisual equipment usage, and display/check
out of models, x-rays, various medical software and other items. Due to the
delicate and expensive nature of LRC resources, food and drink are permitted in
the classrooms only.
Computer
Classroom/Lab
Included in the LRC facility is a computer lab containing 16
terminals, one instructor computer and access to a printer. The computer lab is
used mainly for formal classes and for computer instruction on electronic
resources, database searching, and the Internet. When the lab is not being used
for formal instruction, it is open to all MUSM students. Reserved dates/hours
will be posted on the lab door.

Reservations
MUSM faculty, staff
& students may reserve rooms in the Medical Library & LRC for classes,
meetings, and other functions. Room use is subject to
availability.

Resource Sessions
LRC rooms 201 and 202 are equipped with a camera and a DVD recorder.
All first and second year resource sessions held in these rooms are recorded.
The resource session DVDs are cataloged and placed on four-hour checkout at the
LRC desk.
The resource sessions remain in the LRC through the end of the
current phase and then go to the BMP Coordinator to be
archived.
