Health Sciences Library Located on the campus of the Memorial University Medical
Center, the Health Sciences Library serves the Mercer University School of
Medicine -- Savannah Campus as well as health professionals and Team Members of
Memorial University Medical Center and other learners in health professions on
campus. In April of 2008, the library moved from its location in the
Memorial University Medical Center hospital to an auditorium adjacent to the
Memorial Education Building. This 2,800 square foot facility has seating for
60, 11 public access computers, and 2,674 volumes. Library faculty and staff
manage print collections and online access to over 10,000 health sciences
journals, 33 health sciences databases, and over 400 health sciences books.
Library faculty also provide library instruction and in-depth reference
assistance.

of Medicine and its mission, and to serve as a biomedical information resource
to health professionals and citizens of the State of Georgia. Vision Statement:

programs of Mercer University School of Medicine and its mission; and to serve
as a primary biomedical information resource to health professionals, citizens
of the State of Georgia, and the National Network of Libraries of Medicine.

Mercer University School of
Medicine -- Savannah Campus The Mercer School of Medicines presence in Savannah dates back
to 1996 when the University joined in a clinical relationship with Memorial
University Medical Center. Over the ensuing 12 years, instruction for third-
and fourth-year medical students has been provided at Memorial. The Georgia
General Assembly, recognizing the need for additional physicians in the state,
allocated funds in the 2007-2008 fiscal year for Mercer to expand to a
four-year program in Savannah that confers the M.D. degree and employs the same
curriculum and teaching methods as the Macon campus.
Memorial University Medical Center
Memorial University
Medical Center serves as a teaching hospital for Mercer University School of
Medicine in Savannah. Memorial University Medical Center (MUMC) is an
award-winning academic medical center that serves a 35-county area in southeast
Georgia and southern South Carolina. Approximately one-third of the junior and
senior classes are based in Savannah and complete their entire clinical
curriculum at the Savannah campus. Memorial Health remains the sponsoring
institution for the residency program officially called the "Mercer University
School of Medicine (Savannah) Program."
William and Iffath Hoskins Center for Biomedical Research
The Hoskins Center is a 60,000
square foot facility dedicated to cancer research and academic medicine. It
includes a
laboratory
research program, a
diagnostic
molecular genetics program, and classroom space for six physician residency
training programs. Scientists working within the Hoskins Center strive to move
their findings from the laboratory to the patient bedside within five years, a
process known as translational research. This is one of only a few facilities
in the country conducting translational research on the molecular genetics of
cancer.
Curtis and Elizabeth Anderson Cancer Institute
The Curtis and Elizabeth Anderson Cancer
Institute (ACI) at Memorial University Medical Center building celebrated its
grand opening on August 27, 2003. The state-of-the-art facility houses medical
physics, medical and surgical oncology, a tumor registry, and oncology
multispecialty clinics. Other services offered by the ACI include the region's
only established pediatric and gynecologic oncology programs;
the region's only practicing board-certified surgical oncologists; and the only
practice in the area devoted solely to women's breast health (the
Center for Breast
Care).
George and Marie Backus Children's
Hospital Backus Childrens
Hospital works with Mercer University School of Medicine and provides a
pediatric physician residency program. Backus Childrens Hospital includes
a 44-bed Level III neonatal intensive care nursery, a 12-bed ICU, a 35-bed
inpatient unit, a hematology/ oncology program, and a full-service outpatient
clinic.
